Building Permits, Big Purple Cabinets

It’s nice and quiet up here, but we really aren’t in that isolated of a spot. I can get to a grocery store in 7 minutes. I-65 is 12 minutes away. I can even walk down the hill and get to a critically-acclaimed tenderloin sandwich establishment in less than 10 minutes. But you would think we were on a desert island due to the number of contractors who won’t make the trip to build a modest darkroom. Those months of waiting are finally over, as construction begins tomorrow, permit and all.

Progress can be slow when you have to work a day job. Which is why I’m thrilled to share that I no longer have a day job. I’m looking forward to the near future when I’ll be covered in flat black paint instead of sitting behind a desk all day. This also means that the next steps of starting some basic classes in the basement kitchen, something I aimed to begin last fall, can move forward. Black and white film development is an easy starting point while the weather is still cold, and for that reason, I was recently covered in purple paint. If you’re going to have a really overpowering film dryer, you might as well make it a landmark.
